Our family in Joshua Tree at golden hour — Cy, Erika, Big and Little against monzogranite boulders.

Raise the question askers.

A trail map and a kid's notebook on a picnic table — the homeschooling rig at rest.

Meet the Roam School Family.

RoamSchoolFamily is a family of four roam schooling our way through the 63 U.S. national parks. Erika and I met in San Francisco, raised Big and Little there, then moved north to a Portland suburb, and we are both on sabbatical from leadership roles in tech. There is a small window, a few years where the four of us can do this together before it costs Big and Little something, and we are spending it on the road.

We're four people in a vehicle, working our way through the 63 U.S. national parks and the country between them. Big does math at the picnic table in the morning. Little is on a "draw what you see" rotation that has produced, to date, eleven bison and one ranger's hat. Erika keeps the rig running. Cy writes.

Right now we're working north. Desert behind us, the Cascades ahead. More about us, including how we do school on the road.

Headed our way?

We're working north toward Grand Teton, Yellowstone, Theodore Roosevelt, and Badlands, none of them stamped yet. If you've been, tell us what not to miss: trails, timing, where Big and Little should look up.
